Anifisto (cuz everyone’s got an asshole)
The Femininjas are a Vancouver based feminist activist collective and social potluck circle. We are fierce ninjas, and feisty pirate allies, who are committed to fighting social injustice and ensuring that bellies are full.
We are working for the rights of all folks who experience gender based oppression, including but not limited to sex workers, trans/genderqueer people, leather folk, and survivors of sexual/domestic violence.
We believe that the second wave was a good first draft and, as such, we are not interested in simply taking back the night, but seeing a fullscale reinvention of it!
Ninjas — traditionally quiet radical actors in class resistance — became popular characters in Japanese puppet theatre. Their puppeteers’ concealing suits added to the illusion of their magical ability.
In choosing the name “ninjas,” we hope to situate our organization in the cultural unconscious as a group of elusive but heroic outlaw figures, and possibly to acknowledge an obscure Internet meme. By using a cheeky call sign which emphasizes our stealthiness and elusoriness, we shall flummox, fluster and fnord the targets of our actions!
